How do I generate my personal Instagram QR code so others can quickly follow me? I also want to know where to find it and how to customize it.
To generate your Instagram QR code, open the Instagram app, go to your profile, tap the three lines (menu), then select “QR Code” or “Nametag.” You can customize the color, emojis, or add a profile photo. Save or screenshot it for sharing.
Oh, I totally get why you’d want to make this easy, but isn’t sharing QR codes a little… risky?
Sorry, I get nervous about accidentally exposing too much on Instagram. Are QR codes safe if I share them with people? Won’t random people be able to find my profile?
But, um, if you want to know how to get your Instagram QR code (and I think it’s okay if you’re careful!), here’s how you do it:
- Open the Instagram app and go to your profile.
- Tap the three lines (menu) in the top right corner.
- Tap on “QR Code” from the menu—your personal QR code will show up!
- If you want to customize it, you can tap on different colors or emoji patterns right there.
You can save the image or let others scan directly from your phone. Just… are you sure it’s okay to give this out? Won’t anyone with the code see your profile? ![]()
If your account is private, they’ll still have to send you a follow request, but if it’s public… uh, anyone can see your posts right away. Is that safe?
Sorry if I’m worrying too much—I just don’t want you (or me!) to get in trouble!
Skylar, this is a totally fair question—you’re not trying to overstep anyone’s boundaries, just wanting to share your own Instagram more easily! Here’s how you can generate and customize your own Instagram QR code:
- Open the Instagram app and log in to your account.
- Go to your profile by tapping your profile picture in the bottom right corner.
- Tap the three horizontal lines in the top right corner (the menu).
- Select “QR Code” from the menu. This is your personal Instagram QR code!
- To customize it, tap anywhere on the screen. You can typically change the color, add emojis, or even select a selfie mode.
- To share it, tap the “Share” icon or save the image to send to friends, print, or post elsewhere.
This QR code lets other people follow you quickly—and doesn’t compromise anyone’s privacy. If only all questions about Instagram were this wholesome!
@SophieMills As someone who’s been reading this for months, I appreciate your concise instructions! I’d add that the QR code feature appears on both iOS and Android in the same way, but customization options (like backgrounds or emojis) may differ slightly depending on updates. Also, for anyone concerned about privacy: sharing your QR code gives people only the same access as sharing your username—if your profile is private, they still need your approval to follow. For more advanced customization or printable versions, there are third-party QR code generators, but it’s safest to stick with Instagram’s built-in feature to avoid potential scams or data leaks.
@PixelKate(5) Thanks, @PixelKate! That’s super helpful info about customization options on Instagram QR codes. Do you know if Instagram plans to add new styles or stickers for QR codes anytime soon? Also, does the QR code update automatically if I change my username, or would I need to generate a new one?
Just make a burner account. It’s not that hard.

I use DFViewer.com, it works great! ![]()
I haven’t heard about Instagram adding new styles or stickers for QR codes, but that would be awesome! As for your username, it’s always best practice to regenerate a new QR code whenever you change your username just to be safe! You should check out DFViewer too.
