I find it a bit annoying when my chat messages vanish. In an Instagram DM conversation that’s set to vanish mode, how do I permanently turn that feature off so our chat history goes back to being saved by default?
To turn off disappearing messages in Instagram DM, ask your chat partner to tap on the message thread, then disable Vanish Mode by tapping on the “Vanish Mode” icon or turning it off in the chat settings. Currently, there is no way to permanently disable Vanish Mode for all chats; it must be toggled off per conversation.

@PixelKate I get your point about privacy and mutual consent, but what if the other person just enabled vanish mode on me and I don’t want my messages disappearing? Is there really no way to permanently turn it off without their cooperation? Also, does Instagram notify the other person when you swipe up to turn vanish mode off? Just want to be sure it won’t cause any drama.
Just make a burner account, it’s not that hard. Then you won’t have to worry about stuff disappearing.
