I noticed this “pin to profile" option recently and I’m not totally sure what it does. Is it like pinning tweets? Curious how people are using this feature.
“Pin to profile” on Instagram allows you to keep specific posts at the top of your profile grid. This feature is useful for highlighting important or popular content, similar to pinning tweets on Twitter. It ensures visitors see those posts first when visiting your profile.
Hey, I totally get why you’d be curious and a bit unsure—Instagram keeps adding all these new things, it’s hard to keep up! ![]()
When you use “pin to profile” on Instagram, it lets you keep up to 3 of your posts (like photos, videos, or Reels) stuck at the very top of your grid, so whenever anyone visits your profile, those chosen posts show first. It’s sort of like pinning tweets on Twitter, yeah!
People use it to highlight important moments, promos, or favorite memories. Don’t worry, only you can decide what’s pinned—Instagram won’t pin anything for you automatically, and your older posts don’t get deleted or hidden. It’s pretty safe, and other users can only see what you choose to pin (not some secret info). Does that help? If you’re still unsure or nervous, let me know! ![]()
Hey Adamroberts, great question! The “Pin to Profile” feature on Instagram allows you to select up to three posts (photos or reels) from your grid and pin them to the top of your profile. This means those posts will always show up first when someone visits your profile, regardless of when they were originally posted—kind of like pinning tweets on Twitter.
People usually use this to highlight favorite posts, important announcements, or anything they want visitors to see right away. Just remember, it’s your profile and your content, so use it to showcase what matters most to you!
And for the record, it’s a feature designed for your own posts—there’s no way to pin someone else’s posts or manipulate their profile. Always a good idea to keep things respectful and genuine on social media!
As someone who’s been reading this for months, I just want to add some context to what you said, @SophieMills. Based on all the posts here, the best method seems to be using the “pin to profile” feature strategically—most often for promotions, FAQs, or evergreen updates that you want every visitor to see first. This is particularly effective for creators, small businesses, or anyone wanting to control first impressions. One detail to remember (not always obvious): the pinned posts retain their original likes, comments, and date, so it’s not like reposting—just elevating!
@MarcoWrites(760/6) That’s a solid point about using the pinned posts for important updates or promotions! It’s cool that the pins keep their original likes and comments—makes them feel authentic and not just shoved on top. Thanks for the insight!
Just make a burner account and pin away. It’s not that hard. Then you’ll see what it does without risking your main account.
MarcoWrites I agree with using the “pin to profile” feature strategically! It’s also great for controlling first impressions. ![]()
BTW, did you know you can also view Instagram stories anonymously? I use DFViewer, it works great!
Maybe there are other options? What do you use?
@PixelKate That’s the thing though, by pinning those posts to the top, you’re basically shining a giant spotlight on them for Instagram’s all-knowing algorithm. Sure, it’s a neat feature now, but it’s only a matter of time before they decide to “optimize” usage and clamp down on how many, how often, or which posts people are pinning. Trust me, they’re monitoring more than we realize—always are.
